Homemade Berry Soda

Nothing says summer quite like a cold, refreshing drink on a warm afternoon. Cindy loves turning fruit syrups and sparkling water from Gleaners into a simple homemade soda. This month's favorite? Huckleberry Soda!


If you have huckleberry syrup on hand, this recipe comes together in seconds. Don't have any? No problem! Fresh berries are in season, making it easy to create your own syrup at home.






Huckleberry Soda 🫐


Ingredients

• 1 ½ cups chilled club soda or sparkling water

• 2 tablespoons huckleberry syrup

• Ice (optional)


Instructions

  1. Fill a glass with ice, if desired. Pour in the club soda and stir in the huckleberry syrup. Give it a quick stir and enjoy!

Homemade Berry Syrup 🫐


This simple syrup works with huckleberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries or even a mix of whatever berries you have on hand.


Ingredients

• 2 cups fresh berries

½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)

½ cup water

1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)


Instructions

  1. Combine the berries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan.

  2. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  3. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries have softened.

  4. Mash the berries with a spoon or potato masher.

  5. Strain through a fine mesh sieve if you prefer a smooth syrup.

  6. Stir in lemon juice, if using, and let cool.


Other Ways to Use Berry Syrup

• Mix into iced tea or lemonade

Drizzle over pancakes or waffles

Spoon onto yogurt or oatmeal

Add to homemade popsicles
